Caitley Symons Textile + Design is a boutique textile company specializing in globally eclectic, hand screen printed textiles for interior spaces + home.

eco-friendly + sustainable: All patterns are printed on 100% Belgian Linen, designed and hand screen printed in the USA. Eco-friendly + sustainable practices are important to us; from manufacturing, to the print process to business and studio practices.

A few key points about manufacturing linen: There is no waste since all parts of the flax plant are utilized. Few to zero chemicals are used on the flax plant during cultivation and it does not require irrigation during its growing season. Linen's unbleached 'flax' colour is naturally created by the interaction of sun, rain and earth during the retting process so no dyes or bleaches are added. (Retting: exposure to moisture to break down the fiber from the woody tissue of the flax plant). Additionally, linen fabric is 100% recyclable and biodegradable.

colour + design: All designs, print colours and fabric ground are chosen for long term use, not short term trends. We would like you to enjoy these textiles for years to come! All dyes used for printing are water based + eco-friendly.

about linen: No other fiber offers a blend of luxury, comfort, supreme elegance and down-to-earth practicality that linen does. Here are a few qualities that truly make linen a unique textile.
*Linen has a natural range of beautiful colours in varying shades of ivory, ecru, tan and grey which allows for colour choices without dyes or bleaching.
*It is non-allergenic.
*Has a natural pH balance making it appropriate for those with sensitive skin.
*Relatively easy to take care of.
*It has a smooth texture making finished products lint-free.
*It is known to be one of the worlds strongest natural fiber.
*Has a natural ability to prevent microbes and bacterial growth.
*Natural insulator: Keeps cool in warm climates, traps warmth in colder temperatures.
*It is naturally an anti-static fabric.
*Doesn't stretch.
*Resistant to abrasion and pilling.
*Resistant to moths and carpet beetles.
*Naturally dirt and stain resistant.
*Has only moderate initial shrinkage.
*The more it is handled, the softer it gets.
*Elegant in its own right.
*It has more texture than cotton yet, it remains silky with a high luster.
*The wrinkles are considered part of linens 'charm'.
*Great wicking ability making it perfect for hot climates.
*Slubs: A characteristic of the linen yarn where small random knots occur along its length creating a variation in the fabrics texture and a beauty of its own.
*More tear resistant than cotton and actually gets stronger when it is wet.
